EXCERPT

“Will you just leave already?” I demand, swiping at my tears and feel the welcomed anger eclipse the pain of hurt. Orion looks at me in surprise for a moment then his eyes darken, determination setting in, there is no other way to describe it. He nods once then climbs over the bed and backs me against the wall, crowding me in. “Now you listen, Tiger, I thought I had made myself abundantly clear, and I don’t wish for you to misunderstand again.” Orion takes a deep breath as I hardly dare to breathe. “I have loved you almost since that first look where you sized me up, your amazing mind deciding whether or not to rabbit. I have loved you almost from the moment you looked at me with those big, beautiful eyes, confused as I called you beautiful.” His finger gently caresses my cheek and jawbone. Feeling slightly light headed from lack of oxygen, I suck in a deep breath, letting it out shakily as I see the emotion he talks of in his eyes. “I have loved you from the moment you cared for Lothar, a male you didn’t know, as sweetly as if he were your lover. You are beautiful, honest, and have the tenderest heart of anyone I know. I want to be around you and with you more than anyone else in my life.” Orion pauses, and after a deep breath, he cups my face in his big hands and breathes, “I love you, Mallory, please believe me.” He wipes the tears that are still falling from my cheeks with his thumbs, looking intently at me as I sputter, “But . . . but there is nothing here for you.” He frowns for a second then seems to understand what I am saying. “That’s why you are hurting.” He pulls me into his arms, holding me close, and it feels like he is putting me back together, one piece at a time. His expression is pained when he pulls back. “There is nothing for me to do here, for the moment, that’s what I meant. I just want you safe, I don’t know how I could live if something happened to you.” Relief so great spreads through me making my body tingle, and I slump a little realizing that what I heard was not at all what he meant, and after the relief comes the familiar love that I have been pushing back. “I love you too, Orion. Though it scares me,” I whisper. Orion tenses then forces my chin up to look at him. “I would never leave you willingly, never. I want all of you, always.”

~~Excerpt~~

She pouted slightly as she thought, her full red lips begging him to suck on them. “I felt like dinner went well the other day, but…” She paused and scarlet flared against her cheekbones.

“Dinner did go well,” he agreed. “I wasn’t sure you thought so, but I had a great time.”

“I was surprised when you left so fast.” Looking down at their hands, she avoided his eyes, seeming unsure and flustered. “I thought you’d want a goodnight kiss.”

She felt insecure because he hadn’t kissed her? Well, hot damn!

Brad chuckled and tugged her hands, pulling her close to his chest. She was enough shorter than him that when her hair swished around her face the silky strands rubbed against his chin, catching slightly in the evening stubble he hadn’t had time to shave.

Pressing his lips against her forehead, Brad released one of her hands to caress her cheek and slide his hand down her neck.

The passion he felt in being so close to her was echoed in the soft trembling of Chelsea’s body against his and the sweet, contented sigh she released.

Wrapping both arms around her, Brad held her close to his heart, enjoying having her so near after spending several days apart. If only work would slow down and he could see her more often. He knew it was too sudden to be sure that he wanted things to work out with Chelsea, but holding her felt right. Since the moment she arrived on the island, Brad hadn’t been able to stop thinking about her, wishing he could call her his lady. Now he might have a chance.

Chelsea’s arms circled him, and she rested her head on his shoulder. The soft puffs of breath coming from her mouth bathed his neck with their warmth, making him wish he were less of a gentleman.

“You smell delicious,” she whispered, sniffing deeply. Her lips brushed his collarbone, setting his heart rate racing.

If he didn’t stop this soon, the problem twitching to life in his pants could make a family dinner awkward. Kissing her forehead once more, Brad gently gripped her shoulders and pushed her away.

She begs him to take her for one night, and Remington finally agrees. Will they get a second chance at love, or are the scars from their past too deep to heal?

*~My Review*~
I loved this book.  I loved all of them, but this one was just so much hotter.  I very much enjoyed the premise and having an old flame come back and the second change being possible.  I thought Rem was hot hot hot, and he is probably my new favorite dom.  I think a full length novel of him and Cara would be a thousand times better than 50 shades of grey.  Even just this short novella was awesome, but more would be even better! The past hurt was a good addition to the story between Rem and Cara, and I enjoyed learning about them. I thought Cara was perfect as a sub, that she was tough and still was able to be what Rem needed. Rem was so mysterious, sexy, and sensitive to Cara and her needs, yet the most intense dom of the brothers. I give this book 5 screaming steamy stars and recommend that everyone read the four Steele Brother's novellas!

The Dásreach Legacy © Josette Reuel

Millennia ago when the Earth was much younger it was first protected by great and ferocious beasts — the dragons. However, after a time of peace the dragons left for another world in danger, leaving the Earth in the care of the Great Spirit and its creation… humans.
As it is with such things, the Earth soon found itself in peril once again. Humans prospered, but with that prosperity also came greed and depravity. The Great Spirit saddened by the lack of concern humans had for the Earth and each other, sent forth the Shaman from Tiranam, the Sacred Land, to find the strongest and most loyal of warriors; thirteen warriors to become the guardians of the Earth — the two-spirited, the Dásreach.

The Thirteen, as they became known, were bonded with spirit guardians to better understand the natural world around them. As each warrior accepted their calling they were tattooed with a mark from the Great Spirit and the spirit guardians chose the man best suited to each task; the dragon chose the leader of the warriors, the black panther chose his Beta to support the leader in all things, and the eagle chose the warrior with the strongest connection to the Great Spirit. The remaining warriors were chosen in pairs by the Kodiak grizzly bear spirits for combat strategy and enforcement of laws, the mountain lion spirits for gifts of healing, the red fox spirits to provide for the warriors’ physical needs, the falcon spirits for intelligence and memory to keep the history, and the gray wolf spirits for their ability to instruct others in battle training and their knowledge of the world. The spirit guardians granted each warrior long life, the ability to shift into the form of their spirit guardian, and a special ability to assist them in their sacred duties.

The Dásreach made strides in protecting the natural world, but the balance was still skewed. The warriors lacked the knowledge of true connection and compassion to their fellow humans, seeing them only as the cause for the imbalance of the Earth. Realizing that the men needed a connection to family and community and a way to continue to fulfill their responsibilities into further generations, the Great Spirit sent them into the world to find mates. Destiny chose a woman that would balance each warrior’s strengths and flaws. As each mate accepted their warrior and bonded to their mate they shared in the warriors’ gifts of long life, a spirit guardian, the ability to shift, and the special ability gifted to their warrior — becoming true partners to their warriors.

As a tentative balance was restored to the Earth, the Great Spirit granted the couples many sons to carry on the duty charged to them and to maintain the balance. The Thirteen with their sons and mates created a Dásig, a community, for the Dásreach and became the first council of the Dásreach race.

***
Present Day

The Dásreach still follow the teachings of the first council, leadership switches every twenty years as a new Thirteen are chosen and trained to become the next Council of the Dásreach. As with the original Thirteen, these men are required to find mates to keep balance with the Earth and humanity, so by their fortieth year when the new Council takes control, the law states that they must have bonded with their destined mates. In all of the history of the Dásreach, the Thirteen have always found their mates — that is until the current Thirteen.

Charlie Gavin is a panther shifter and the Beta of the Thirteen — the group to become the next Dásreach Council. But, to become the council the Thirteen must find their mates. When he received a phone call from his best friend and Alpha, Kai Darrow, Charlie was happy his friend found his mate, but a bit jealous too. That was until he saw Natalie on the side of the road with her friends after a blown tire. His panther’s natural instincts immediately took control and his passions rose with each interaction with the emotionally distanced ex-Marine.

NaNoWriMo ParticipantNatalie Hunnam, goes by Nat, decided a long time ago that living life only got you hurt. She devoted herself to the Marines and when she couldn’t handle seeing the aftermath of the conflict of being a soldier; she retired and started helping those wounded soldiers that spoke to her own wounded heart. Her life was rewarding, but lonely, until the Book Worms. Control and logic ruled her life, but paranormal romance and her Book Worms gave her a place to release her deepest hidden desires. Desires that manifested in one cocky British Dásreach panther.

Unbeknownst to the Thirteen a darkness is working against them, preventing possible mates from coming into contact with them. Working in the shadows and using human pawns, the darkness has set its sights on Natalie and her friends.

Can Charlie convince Natalie that sometimes you need to let go and live before it’s too late?

Josette Reuel, Author Bio
Josette ReuelJosette Reuel spent many years in the corporate world writing stuffy computer software manuals, until one day a shape-shifting dragon kidnapped her and dragged her off to be his destined mate... as the words flowed on to the page, she realized that it was time to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a published author.

An avid reader from her earliest memories, Josette enjoys many genres; however her current passion is anything Romance. Her love of Fantasy and the Paranormal tends to come out in all of her writing with strong alpha heroes, each with a little something extra.

Finding the Dragon — the first book in the Dásreach Council Novels — was her debut novel. The future promises to be full of more great releases.

*~My Review*~
This book was completely different that the last two.  I loved it just as much, but it was different.  This time Rafe was the sub, and it was an eye opening switch.  I prefer reading books where the woman is the sub, but this one was just as wonderful to read. Rafe was hot and sexy and sensitive, which is a heady combination in a man.  I can't wait to read the next book about the last brother!
I thought Summer was the perfect heroine for Rafe, and very much enjoyed reading about them.  I actually wish this story was longer, not that I didn't want the others to be longer, but this one made me want for more of this couple.  I would definitely recommend all of the books so far int eh Steele brothers series. 5 stars!!

Portrait of young elegant couples in the tender passion

EXCERPT

“Cord, come dance with me,” I suggest, sliding out of my chair and holding my hand out to her.
She looks up at me in surprise then blushes and reaches her good hand up to clasp mine and we head to the dance floor. The music has all been slower songs, which is good because with her broken arm Cord wouldn’t be able to get too crazy.
I slide one arm around her waist and pull her against me while taking her free hand in mine. We sway to the music and I notice the beat changes into another song which is a bit faster, so I dip Cord back then nudge her gently with my arm at her waist while pulling her other arm, making her go in a circle before pulling her body back up against mine.
She giggles. “This is fun, and you’re quite good,” she says smiling up at me. “Even with my bum arm.”
I smile back and respond, “thank you.” Then we continue on, me dipping, swaying, pushing away pulling her back against me. I twist her so that her back is against me and we sway in time to the music. I drop my head against her shoulder and lay my cheek against hers.
“You’re pretty good at this yourself,” I say into her ear and feel her body tremble against mine as she lays her head back against my chest. ““Even with your bum arm.”
We sway a bit more, before I spin her around again and dip her before bringing her up against my body, lifting her to where her face is close to mine. We are still swaying slightly as the music changes again, and then, looking into her eyes and her flushed face, I lean closer, my eyes falling to her lips.
I feel her take in a breath and hear it catch in her throat. I release her hand and slide both of my arms around her, one on her waist and the other around her back. Her hand moves to my shoulder and I feel her pull me closer. My eyes flick back up to hers, which are locked onto my mouth. Without another thought, I lean in and press my lips against hers softly. My hand moves to her nape as I cradle her against me.
I feel a shock at the first touch of our lips and then I feel Cord press herself even closer to me as she pulls at my shoulder. She is everything I have been wanting and more than I had hoped for. Her lips are soft and warm, molding against mine; her body is lean and muscled, though still soft. Her hand moves up to my hair and she lightly scratches my scalp and I moan into her mouth feeling the touch all throughout my body.
I move my lips against hers, lightly swiping my tongue against her lower lip, coaxing her to open for me. She does, sucking in a shuddering breath, and I thrust my tongue into her mouth. I feel as well as hear her groan in to my mouth as she angles her mouth against mine.
I pull back from her mouth and move to her neck, lightly leaving open- mouthed kisses along her jaw and neck. I have waited years to finally kiss her, and I have wanted her more the last few days. “Cord,” I whisper and I feel her body stiffen.
I pull back and look at her in question. She looks up at me with indecision all over her face, though I can see the desire in her eyes.

Excerpt
Yesterday.

Rogue sat on the front porch swing. The plantation style house was huge and she loved the wraparound porch. Everything here was so different than her apartment in Tennessee. Trees and bayou stretched out, she could only assume for miles, in all directions. The noises of the bugs and animals, the wind through the branches of the trees, lulled her as she pushed the swing back and forth. Slowly rocking as her mind furiously tried to digest what had been said in the kitchen.

      Shifters. Mates.

Not only Al, who had met the man that had brought them here, but Nat and herself too. These gorgeous, tall, broad, muscled men thought that the three of them were their mates. It was too good to be true. It was one of her favorite books come to life.

Most would respond like Nat with total disbelief. However, Rogue had always believed in the supernatural and the possibilities that were in the universe that human beings typically didn’t know or understand. Growing up with a free-spirited mom and with a name like hers, Rogue Marie Phenix, you had to see the possibilities in life. She thought back to her and the girls’ trip to the cemetery. She had made a wish. She was grateful for finding the Book Worms, for having found friends like Al, Nat, and all of the other girls on their page, but at twenty-nine years of age, it wasn’t enough. She dreamed of a man and a family.

In recent years she had taken her life into hand. A cancer scare will do that to you. She no longer waited for the right time, but took life by the horns and rode that bull full-tilt forward. That is why she had planned this trip with Al and Nat, why she was planning a trip to Europe, and why she had begun classes for a degree in IT Administration. She had goals and she was going to reach them.

But, Destiny could be a fickle bitch and it appeared she had other ideas. In the form of a six foot three inch bear of a man, with startling green eyes that seemed to see straight into her soul. She could say to hell with Destiny and her ideas, but between his size, those eyes, short brown hair that begged for her fingers to run through it, a five o’clock shadow, his southern and French accented drawl, and the tattoos, Rogue was already in lust enough to agree with just about anything that man wanted.

Malkum was intense and maybe a bit volatile. When she had agreed with Nat’s initial response that this had to be crazy, his reaction was immediate and violent. When he had pushed his chair back and stood, Rogue’s breath had hitched at the sight of all those muscles.

Damn it. I’m supposed to be figuring this out, not thinking about him.

At that moment, the man in question stepped out the front door and onto the porch. Malkum walked to the edge of the porch and gazed into the bayou, she couldn’t fathom what he saw that she couldn’t. He shook his head and sighed as he leaned against a porch post and glanced over at her.

“Alvena said you need space, but I have a weird feelin’ in my gut. I’m not sure it’s safe out here,” he rumbled, and then stared off into the bayou again. “The bayou around my house is normally secure, but things are different now.”

Malkum came up to her and reached out his hand. He just stood there holding his hand out and waited. She gazed up into his deep emerald eyes and placed her hand in his. He pulled her from the swing and she stumbled into his chest. The man was a foot taller than her and she had to crane her head way back to look into his face from this angle. The strong jaw clenched and his nostrils flared.

“Can you humor me, chère? I’ll let you have yer space as long as it’s inside.” His fingers slid up her arms and gripped her at her biceps.

She felt him push her backwards. He set her to the side and strode a few feet down from her. He peered around the corner of the house to the other side of the porch. He stood stiff and watchful.

What the blazes in hell? The man was driving her insane. They had said that he was her mate, but he acted as if he wanted nothing to do with her. Out of the three girls, she was the one who would jump into this mate business with both feet — she had signed up on that Internet dating site after all — and this man seemed to have less interest in her than the slug she saw slowly moving across the porch step.

Rogue’s temper flared and she stormed over to where the insufferable man stood.

“Now, you see here,” she said as she stabbed him in the chest with her finger. “One, don’t ever set me to the side like some object or child. Two, I have been takin’ self-defense classes and I can take care of myself. If you would think back, Nat and I protected the three of us just fine on our own. And, three, there is no way…”

A thump sounded and then she heard something metallic roll across the wood of the porch floor only seconds before Malkum had her up in his arms and was racing down the porch on the side of the house. He leaped from the top of the steps leading to the back yard just as a loud boom shook the earth. Rogue could hear shouts and gunshots sound from behind her. Malkum clutched her tightly to his chest and the world bounced with the strides of his steps. Everything was happening so quickly that she couldn’t quite catch up and figure out what was happening.

Malkum slid to a stop on a dock, just steps away from the water of the bayou that spread out behind the house. He set her down in a small motor boat and jumped in after her. He quickly had the motor on and was turning the boat out onto the water.

      “Wait,” she croaked out.

Malkum kept steering the boat and watching where they were going while glancing behind them.

“Wait,” she screamed. “What the fuck is goin’ on? We need to go back. I need to help Al and Nat.”

A gunshot rang out from behind them and she heard a bullet hit a nearby tree just as they turned at a bend in the waterway.

      “Malkum? My friends?” she pleaded.

He reached up to caress her cheek and gazed into her eyes.
“They will be okay, chère. Kai and Charlie will protect them.” He turned his eyes back to the trees and vegetation.

Rogue heard things slipping into the water. She shivered and wrapped her arms around her waist. The man was like a beautiful marble statue and he was listening about as well as one too. She watched as he turned down a split in the waterway and sped forward. The sun shone off his hair, adding highlights of gold and red to his dark brown locks. She sighed. Yeah. Destiny’s a fickle bitch.
