"SPOTLIGHT" Author, John Howell

Rave Reviews Book Club's "SPOTLIGHT" Author Blog Tour

Thank you, for having me on your post today. Since this is the first stop on the Rave Reviews Author Spotlight Tour, I think it appropriate to let your readers know a little about me for their files.
This is the first stop on what will be a fantastic tour as a Rave Reviews Spotlight Author. If you would like to be chosen for this honor you need to be a member. To find out how go to the website http://ravereviewsbynonniejules.wordpress.com/ and read all about it. You can also see all my tour stops listed under Spotlight Authors.

Born in Detroit Michigan and pretty much on my own from my eighteenth birthday, I graduated from Michigan State University and went to work for a large consumer packaged goods company. Since my first work experience was so interesting, I pretty much stayed close to the consumer business. After about forty-five years as a prisoner of organized commerce, I made a break for it and succeeded in escaping. During the previous ten years before my successful dash for liberty, I struggled with writing a novel and it eventually grew to over 100,000 words.  I finally printed it off the computer for the purposes of editing. After about fifty pages I realized it was a piece of bad writing and it is currently earning its keep holding the laundry room door open in a breeze.

I don’t think the ten years were wasted since the time spent on the manuscript gave me the experience of what was necessary to become a serious writer. I did learn for me it was impossible to write and work full time as well. I came to the decision to give up writing until I could do it full time.

I started writing full time in 2012 and finished my first novel titled My GRL in August of that year. I did a round of queries and was picked up by Martin Sisters Publishing. The paper edition of My GRL was published in December of 2013 and the E-book edition in January 2014. My next novel is a sequel to My GRL and is temporarily titled His Revenge. The manuscript has been sent to the publisher per our contract and I am waiting on news of publication. In the meantime, I am working on the third book of in the series with the working title Our Justice and plan to have the first draft finished by the end of December. After finishing, I will be starting a whole new story in January.

  2. It really is difficult to write and work full time. I find I have little time in the day/week/month/year to do anything else. Glad you have been able to devote your time to writing now.
